Manhunt with Sigma Alpha Epsilon

Last night, the sisters of Alpha Chi Omega participated in man hunt with the brothers of Sigma Alpha Epsilon.  Their house is right across the street from ours, so at 8:30 the two chapters met on the front lawn of SAE.  It was raining out,  but both chapters were still excited to play.  After playing a couple rounds, the event came to an end after one of the brothers was sprayed by a skunk.  The night was quite a success and gave the two chapters yet another opportunity to get to know one another even better.

Chapter Retreat

Today, the sisters of Alpha Chi Omega went to Wagon Hill in Durham to have our chapter retreat.  The day consisted of some great activities.  We started with a human lap sit which resulted in a very hilarious video.  Then we split the chapter into two groups and debated the relevance of the greek system.  Some great points came up on both sides, but those in support of the greek system won the debate.  We then split into smaller discussion groups to discuss concerns about the chapter and then came back together to discuss them as a group.  To keep us excited we tried another human lap sit and then finished the day with a great activity where we created a web of ribbon by complimenting and passing the ribbon to someone we might not usually speak to.  All in all the day was very successful and brought us even closer together.

Recruitment practice

To celebrate Labor Day, Alpha Chi Omega held its first recruitment practice for Fall 10 and Spring 11 sisters.  VP Recruitment Brianna Desrochers went through her entire recruitment plan and helped us all understand how the other side of the process works.

Sisters gathered in the chapter room for recruitment practice

After we were introduced to the whole process, the real fun started.  We learned all the cheers and even went outside to practice them a couple times.  We did a great job and even had an audience for the last couple cheers.  It was really hot while we were practicing, so when we finished a bunch of sisters headed to the outdoor pool.

International Badge Day/ Feather Party

In support of International Badge Day, many of the Alpha Chi Omega sisters dressed to pin for their classes.  It was a great way for us all to show off our badges and look great going to class.  This celebration to honor sisterhood was started in 1997 by the National Panhellenic Conference.

Later that night, many sister came to the house to enjoy a feather party.  This activity was planned by our lovely new members and it gave everyone the chance to do something fun with their hair.  Everyone was excited to pick out which color they wanted in their hair and the results were quite gorgeous.

Hera Day/ Alpha Sister

March 1st is Hera Day which is a day in honor of our patron goddess Hera.  Alpha Chi Omegas give personal service for the happiness and well-being of others. Members also recognize the fraternity's commitment to helping others by conducting service projects and offering assistance to others.

Today was also the day that the Spring '11 New Members received their alphabets from their alpha sister.  A group of 12 sisters graciously volunteered to make beautiful crafts for the New Members that would also teach them the alphabet.  In return, the new members made candy covered A's for their alpha sisters.

During their meeting today, the Spring '11 New Members continued the tradition of making posters with their picture and facts about themselves.  The posters line the stairwell down to the kitchen.  This is a great way for sisters to get to know the new members!

Movie Night and Ice Cream Sundaes

Last night our lovely VP Membership Development, Laura Gilbert, planned a movie night and ice cream sundae sisterhood event.  A bunch of sisters started out in the kitchen making their ice cream sundaes and then they all made their way upstairs to the TV room to watch Clueless.
